[Last Week]    The Beach family, Charles, Doretta, Lela and Claude, set out from Cornwall, Ontario on October 18, 1921. This is Doretta's diary.

Hotel Pendleton [OSA], Pendleton, Oregon. Nov. 22. Left Hot Lake on the nine o'clock train, weather warm and fair, snow almost all gone but the farther west we came through the Blue Mountains the more snow, but enjoyed the trip. Train a little late when we arrive at half past twelve. The snow was piled up along side walks seven feet where it had been shovelled, the fall being thirty inches, so located until we can hear how Highway is for going on. Lela and Claude gone to the show.
Nov. 23rd. Weather very mild, but roads impassable for going farther west. In evening had a phone call from a Mrs. McRae who had recently returned from Cornwall, inviting us to come and spend the evening which we gladly accepted, and they came for us and brought us back to the hotel.
Nov. 24th. Thanksgiving Day. Weather still very mild, but roads not yet opened up. In the evening Mr. and Mrs. McRae came down to the hotel and spent the evening with us and invited us for dinner the next evening.
Nov. 25th. Still mild, but road not yet open. Mr. McRae came about half past one and drove us all around town, then took us over to there home where they had a Mr. Thompson come to meet us, a Canadian. We had a lovely dinner, spent the evening, also a Mr. and Mrs. Bell, he also a Canadian. Mr. McRae brought us home at half past eleven.
Nov. 26th. Still no way of getting through. Weather very mild. Mr. Thompson invited us over for Sunday dinner.
Nov. 27th. Rainy. Mr. Thompson came for us to go for dinner. They have a beautiful home. Stayed until five o'clock and he brought us back. Streets very sloppy.
Nov. 28th. Weather mild but nothing new concerning roads.
