40 Cars Await Teal
At least 40 motorists are waiting in The Dalles to ship their
automobiles to Portland on the steamer Teal, which is scheduled to
arrive here tonight on a special trip, according to
H.R. Fancher,
manager of The Dalles garage. Some are believed doomed to
disappointment, as it is understood that the Teal can only carry about
25 big automobiles, or 30 small ones. No further word concerning
whether the vessel would arrive, as scheduled, has been received in The
Dalles. Last word was that the Teal would be here tonight, and
stranded motorists are impatiently awaiting the sound of its whistle.
About 20 more automobiles arrived in the city yesterday from Arlington,
after the highway had been cleared. It is now possible to drive all the
way to Pendleton without any considerable inconvenience, local garage
men say.
