Hotel Breezel, Buffalo,
N. Y. April 11th. Weather rainy in early
morning, very high wind all night, fairing up about nine and sun shining
all forenoon, then cloudy and light showers in afternoon. Left
Cleveland, Ohio at nine o'clock and came through Parks to the lake drive
and along the lake drive a distance of fifty miles to Asthubula, Ohio,
and on to Erie, Penn., and stopped for lunch. Had State roads that far,
then after leaving Erie, twenty miles we had five miles of very bad
road, and they got on the wrong road for five miles, and that was pretty
bad, and all the rest of the way was fine coming two hundred miles in
all. The country looked so nice and such large grape vineyards and some
orchards. Getting here at half past five.
The Pontiac,
Oswego,
N, Y. April 12th.
High wind all night and flurries
of snow in morning and a cold bleak wind. Left Buffalo at twelve after
having lunch. Roads good came to
Rochester
and on through little towns
all along and fifteen miles before we got here came along Lake Ontario
and it began to rain a drizzling rain, but paved roads all the way. Went
a hundred and fifty miles getting here at half past five. Went around to
see the Davis' and they were not home from the South.
Oswego, April 13th.
Weather cloudy and cool wind. Left Oswego about nine
o'clock. Roads fine, got to
Ogdensburg
at quarter to one a hundred and
twenty-five miles. Had lunch and ferried across to Prescott. Was there
an hour getting car through Customs and had to pay $682.00 duty. Came
down and called on Alice and on down and called at
Iroquois
and on to
Morrisburg.
Called at
Uncle Bensons.
Then went to garage to inquire
about roads and they advised us to go by North Williamsburg and
Bouckshill,
Lunenburg and Wales and found the roads very bad. Water over
their roads one place and deep ruts and mud. Got home and
Clifford
and
some fellows was playing pool. Went in and surprised him, then went down
to see
Gertrude and the children
and had our tea and came up home.
The best part was the getting home.
Total mileage of trip 10,850 miles.
Los Angeles to Cornwall, 3,700 miles.
